a Perfect Cabin Retreat
Lake Country Log Homes has recently sent a log shell package to a town called Crawford Bay, in beautiful British Columbia. Located on the eastern shore of Kootenay Lake, Crawford Bay is a hub for craftspeople, including blacksmiths, potters, and weavers, whose studios attract many visitors. Surrounded by the Purcell Mountains, the town offers breathtaking views and a plethora of outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, and kayaking. Crawford Bay is also known for its historical sites and is close to the SS Moyie, the world’s oldest intact sternwheeler. The town’s vibrant community events, including music festivals and local markets, reflect its rich cultural fabric. This small town not only provides a peaceful retreat but also a unique experience of connecting with traditional crafts and nature’s tranquility.
We have designed a great cabin for clients lucky enough to live in such a beautiful area. With a half loft and encompassing a total living area of 720 square feet, the cabin features a welcoming living room leading into the kitchen and a combined bathroom / laundry area next to a cozy bedroom at the rear. The walls, approximately 10 feet high, were built from Western Red Cedar logs, each around 16 to 18 inches in diameter. As always, each log was meticulously hand-peeled and chiseled by us, reflecting our commitment to craftsmanship and attention to detail. We’re happy that our clients now have opportunity to enjoy their community in such a perfect and cozy little cabin!

Set-up

Here we can see the completed Western Cedar log shell in it’s entirety. Visible here are the tagged logs in the staggered corners, pitch cuts to accommodate framing on the top logs and the ridge beam, a handcrafted truss at the front, header cuts, bevel cuts and angled aluminum in the windows and doors. The angled aluminum has one side attached to aside buck with the other fitting into a vertical keyway, allowing the logs to settle without damaging the window or door.
The set-up of the Western Red Cedar log home has been completed. Completion of this stage is always a happy event.
